A BRIEF HISTORY OF UNION

BAPTIST CHURCH

Union Baptist Church, Easton, Maryland, was founded in   1887, when Robert Potter, a consecrated member, opened his    home to a small congregation so that they might have a place    to worship.  Later, a white friend of the group, Mrs. Mary Cox, gave half an acre of ground in Kirkham, Maryland, (between Easton and St. Michaels) where the first church building was erected.  The church was then known as the "Colored Baptist Church of Talbot County." The congregation remained in the Kirkham community for 21 years and relocated, in 1908, to 116 Hammond Street, Easton, Maryland, remaining there until 1982 (74 years) and now is located at 233 Glenwood Avenue, Easton, Maryland.
